The phoenix, in Chinese culture, is called Fenghuang 鳳凰. They are mythological birds from East Asia reigning on all others species.

In mythology the Fenghuang is said to be born on the sun. His body emphasis all elements, and symbolizes the celestial bodies: the head is the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet are the earth, and the tail is the planets.

Also its body contains all the 5 fundamental colors  :  black, white, red, yellow, and green.

It said appearing only in peaceful place.

At the basis “Feng” was use for female and “huang” was use for males but the distinction disappeared to represent only females in order to link them with dragons.
