Monk in traditionnal Japan have a place in the society. After Buddhism was brought to Japan from chinese embassy in the early 7th century, monks started to add their own idea to the way teached. Mixing traditionnal shintoïsm and newscomer Buddhism, Japan created a numerous sects, extremely famous as the sect Shingon.
Monks in Japan had the right to marry and have family, they were also famous for differents skills coming from teaching to fighting and going to more “japanese linked” skills as gardening, zen garden, or tea ceremony, called “cha no yu” in Japan.
Also, well reknowed during the sengoku time the monk-warrior sohei were fighting in numerous wars before Oda Nobunaga judging them as a potential danger decided to exterminate them. He got the nickname of “Devil king” after that.
